πTrading Rough Diamonds
Rough Diamond Pricing
Rough diamonds are not valued and sold on a conventional price per stone basis, instead they are traded on an 'Average Price Per Carat'.
Meaning that all of the diamonds in a consignment are purchased at the same Average Price Per Carat, regardless of the Clarity, Color or Size of each individual stone.
This is the industry standard practice and it is done that way to avoid needing to give each stone a detailed quality report.
For investors this is good news as gives them an opportunity to purchase an amazing diamond at the fraction of its final value.
Cut Diamond Pricing
Cut diamonds are valued differently, once the stone has been cut it is inspected by a qualified and approved Gemologist and a detailed quality report is issued.
This report is often called a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) report and tells a buyer all about the stone as well as its final cut shape.
The difference in pricing methods between Rough and Cut diamonds is what creates the huge profit potential for investors who choose to get their stones cut.
Cutting a rough diamond into a polished gem can significantly increase its value, often by 300% to 400%. This process, known as diamond cutting, allows investors to maximize their return on investment.
What is the Price of a Rough Diamond?
Transparency and Secrecy are two of the biggest problems faced within the current rough diamond industry leading to it often being called a 'closed shop'.
Even finding price guides for rough diamonds can prove a challenge, making it extremely difficult for new investors to enter the market.
However, KimberLite is all about transparency and helping new investors enter the market. So, we can tell you that the Average Price Per Carat for a rough diamond is between $2,600 and $3,200, for 'Gem Grade' stones the variation in price is caused by different trading centers and of course quality.
This is the price range we guarantee to supply rough stones at within our KimberLite ecosystem.
'Gem Grade' rough diamonds are the marketβs finest: 5β30+ carats, VVS1βVS2 clarity, DβH colors, ready to become stunning, jaw-dropping stones when cut.
Size Really Matters
When cutting and polishing a rough diamond up to 60% (worst case scenario) of the stone size will be lost during the process. This means the size of the final cut piece will be less than the original rough stone size.

This reduction in stone size when getting it cut and polished does not mean that you are throwing money down the drain, far from it in fact.
Through cutting and polishing a rough diamond the value of the stone is dramatically increased, and the bigger the diamond the more its value rises.
